GRASS RULES

RULES for DOUBLES:

  1. RALLY SCORING

  2. SWITCH SIDES every 7 points for games to 21 or 25 and every 5 points for games to 15. (Tournaments Only)

  3. BLOCK - counts as a touch

  4. DIRECTIONAL BLOCK- is legal, if there is a disagreement about a blocking vs attacking motion leading to a tip, replay the point

  5. NON HARD DRIVEN-You can use your hands, but it must be CLEAN. You can receive serves with open hands as long as it is CLEAN.

  6. HARD DRIVEN balls can be doubled if taken with open hands.

  7. SET OVER-Must travel within your shoulders to the other side of the net, if the wind pushes the ball over it is legal

  8. OPEN HAND TIPS - are NOT allowed

  9. REPLAY any controversial points where both parties can't come to an agreement

  10. A net is a net. You lose the point if you touch the net.

  11. Interference of a set: you cannot reach over the net to block or intercept the ball while the opponent is still attempting to set or complete their hit. Blocking the ball over the net is only allowed once the opponent has completed their attack hit or set.

  12. LET SERVES ARE LEGAL - that’s when the ball touches the net during a serve.

  13. If a player goes under the net into the other side and physical interferes with a play, the team whose player went under loses the point.

  14. If your team is late by more than 10 minutes from the start of your game, your team loses the Set. Late by more than 15 minutes and your team loses the match.

  15. True Double Elimination Format: The Final Match is a best 2 out of 3 games. If the Winner’s Bracket Champion wins the match, then they are the winners of the tournament. If the Loser’s (Contenders) Bracket wins the match, then this triggers a second match to just 25 points. (Applies to tournaments only)

  16. RUSH Director reserves the right to change the rules at any time.

RULES for TRIPLES:

  1. Block does not count as a touch

  2. Directional blocking is legal

  3. Players may double contact any first ball over (including serves) provided the ball is not held. Players may NOT double contact the second or third hits.

  4. No open hand tips allowed.

  5. Replay any controversial points.

  6. Let Serves are LEGAL. The ball can touch the top of the tape/net during serves.

  7. If sending a ball over with hands, you must be squared to where the ball is sent.

  8. Sets can't be doubled.

  9. A net is a net. You lose the point if you touch the net even after the ball lands.

  10. You are responsible for entering your own scores on Volleyballlife

  11. Setting Over: When the ball is set into the opponents court, the setters shoulders must be squared up (forwards or backwards) to the line of flight of the ball.

  12. If the other team doesn't start its game within the first 10 minutes, the team loses the set.

  13. Time Outs: Each team is allowed one 30 second timeouts per game. Time out may be called prior to server receiving ball on either side of court between plays.

  14. Side Changes: Teams should switch sides of the court after every 7 points in games to 17 or more, and every 5 points for games to 15. (Tournaments only)

  15. If the third set is not finished by the allotted time, the team with the most points by end of the time allotted wins the set.

RULES for QUADS:

  1. Rally scoring.

  2. Swith sides every 7 points for games to 21 or 25 and every 5 points for games to 15. (Tournaments only)

  3. Can't lift the ball

  4. Block does not count as a touch

  5. Directional blocking is legal

  6. You can receive any ball with opens hands including serves.

  7. Sets do not have to be clean, they can be doubled 

  8. Open hand tips allowed (Beginners Only)

  9. Open hand tips not allowed (For Intermediate level or Higher)

  10. LET serves are legal meaning the ball may touch the top of the net when going over during a serve.

  11. Replay any controversial points.

  12. When setting the ball over the net, you do not have to be squared (Beginners Only)

  13. When setting the ball over the net, you have to be squared meaning the set must travel within your shoulders to the other side (Intermediate level Only)

  14. You lose the point if you touch the net.

  1. Rally scoring.

  2. Swith sides every 7 points for games to 21 or 25 and every 5 points for games to 15. (Tournaments only)

  3. Can't lift the ball

  4. Directional blocking is legal

  5. THE BIGGEST RULE IS THAT MEN CAN ONLY HIT THE BALL/SWING IF THEY ARE BEHIND THE 10 FOOT LINE. Women can hit from anywhere.

  6. Men can only block men. Women can block anyone.

  7. Sets can’t be doubled (For intermediate level or higher)

  8. No open hand tips allowed.

  9. Let Serves are LEGAL. The ball can touch the top of the tape/net during serves.

  10. If sending a ball over with hands, you must be squared to where the ball is sent.
